A Night at The Ballet

A Night at The Ballet

Perdido offers more than just beach activities, especially in the fall!  As the  temperature starts to cool, there are plenty of activities to draw you indoors. This   past weekend I went to a showing of the ballet version of the Headless Horseman.  It was out in Pensacola at the Ballet Pensacola, located in Historic Downtown Seville Quarter.

Leaving from the office here in Perdido Key, it is actually just a short 25 minute drive through the heart of Pensacola to get to Seville Quarter in Pensacola.  The area abuts the scenic route to Pensacola Beach and is easy to navigate with plenty of parking.

Once seated, the director came out to explain how the first half there would be 3 different types of ballet danced, while the second would get spookier for Halloween and tell a version of the headless horseman.  It started out traditional, then became more contemporary, and ended with a large group number that seemed more futuristic but helped to blend well into the next half.    The dancing was very well coordinated and the props helped to add to the otherworldly theme.  There was a very large wooden horse that the horseman actually rides!

While no beverages were allowed into the theatre, out in the lobby there was a bar and sitting area, and being in the center of Pensacola offered a variety of options for after the ballet.  We opted to go to one of Pensacola’s favorite landmarks, McGuire’s Irish Pub.  McGuire’s is always lively and full of live music with multiple rooms for parties of all sizes.   It is most well-known for all of the dollar bills covering every available wall surface, as well as $.18 bean soup, and the traditional kissing of the moose.  After a prime rib dinner, we walked along the water’s edge and enjoyed the view of Pensacola and Gulf Breeze at night.

This night out was just one of the many hidden gems Perdido Key locals and visitors alike can enjoy.  Any number of restaurants and bars in the area offer live and local bands, as well as the freshest seafood and friendly faces.  When the weather cools we might leave our beaches, but only for the warmth of the locals inside our favorite haunts in Pensacola.  So next time you come down to see us, ask what our plans are-we are always happy to let you in on our fun!
